The Port of Oakland occupies over 20 miles on the mainland shoreline of the San Francisco Bay, one of the finest natural harbors in the world. The Port is a world-class international cargo transportation and distribution hub and provides a vital link between producers and consumers all over the world.
It is the 3rd-largest container port on the U.S. West Coast, the 5th-busiest in the U.S. and provides:
• Modern, efficient and congestion free terminals
• 779 acres of terminal facilities with 18 deepwater berths
• 36 cranes, 30 with post- or super post-Panamax capability
• 2+ million TEU annual throughput
• Intermodal rail and truck Infrastructure
• More than 25 ocean carriers serving the port regularly with over 2,000 vessel calls annually
• Approximately U.S. $40 billion in traded goods transit through Oakland each year
The Port is continuously seeking improvements to enhance the efficiency of transporting its cargoes to their destinations. This project primarily focuses on developing a ground transportation program to identify needed projects and to develop an implementation plan.
